Our route from Buenos Aires took us out through São Paulo, Brazil, so we stayed a couple of nights, both to break up the flights and to see a bit of the city. At 20M people, São Paulo is quite a bit bigger than Buenos Aires, and it feels newer, less European in layout, though this may be due in part to the much larger financial district. We checked out a shopping center and the CBD, but the only picture we have is of the power lines, reminiscent of the wire work in India. We spent most of our time at the 400 acre Ibirapuera Park — the most visited park in South America, we’re told. The park has miles of walks, coconut water and snack vendors, choreographed fountains, idyllic streams, and flotillas of black swans. We took a picnic lunch from the hotel, camped out on a bench, and just enjoyed the beautiful 80 degree day. Did I mention the black swans? The photographer wanted to be sure I mentioned the black swans. Then it was back to the airport for an overnight flight to Cape Town for a day, and then on to Lisbon. Exit through the gift shop. Our last stop in Cape Town. It almost felt like going home. Almost.
